Don't say what do you mean
when you mean to say
I'm frustrated, angry, and confused.
By inviting more confusion into the room
we're pulling apart from each other.
You see me less. You focus on obscurity.
You're commitment to misunderstanding
frightens me.
Imagine if you believed you could
understand me. Mother and child
aren't meant to blend seamlessly.
There will be fights. We both will
act like we don't understand
the clearest words. We should
just say elaborate. On your idea
or the problem you are expressing.
That's probably exactly what you mean.
I didn't want to explain myself further.
I hoped my desperate tone would
translate the message.
But you didn't know.
It's my responsibility to let you know.
Not all my words mean to you
what I want you to know.
When you say "what do you mean"
I question my own reality.
Did I not just bear my soul?
My eyes have to swell
My jaw has to quiver
Now you know.
